Caltex Oil Tools is seeking talented engineers with a passion for and deep-seated drive to design mechanical, and electro hydromechanical systems and devices in the Houston, TX area. Reporting to the director of operations, you will engineer and design solutions from ideation to production for new devices and improve current designs. During the creation process, you will ensure that our designs meet all necessary design requirements through analysis and review of specifications and producing high-quality models and drawing packages to manufacture, test, and operate these systems.

Other responsibilities include expanding and enhancing existing product lines with new and innovative ideas and approaches; working directly with manufacturers and fabricators to achieve required standards and quality end products; reviewing purchase orders, correcting outstanding issues and verifying exceptions and clarifications, and following through and acknowledging changes with suppliers through timely communication. Must work well within a team atmosphere and contribute accordingly, working in a respectful and professional manner with fellow employees, management, and clients.

Responsibilities

The design engineer will:

  • Use sound engineering practice to design equipment that meet customer applications, specifications, standards, and applicable design codes.
  • Draw, model, update, and maintain designs.
  • Manage multiple complex projects at the same time.
  • Ensure our designs meet manufacturing, technical, and customer responsibilities.
  • Ensure that all design projects are completed within budget and time.
  • Develop testing procedures, operations and maintenance manuals, and other documentation specific for the products being developed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or relevant technical degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of design engineering experience
  • Strong grasp of core mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, design for manufacture, etc.)
  • Proficient in CAD and SolidWorks
  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite of products
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in deepwater, subsea, and ROV operations a plus
