IT Technician

The IT technician is responsible for the daily support and maintenance of user-end computer equipment and software.

Position Type

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Extended hours of work may be required as job duties demand.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the computer science field

Supervisory Responsibility

The IT technician position has no direct supervisory responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Provides general maintenance and repair of computers and computer equipment
  • Provides support to end users on a variety of issues
  • Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems
  • Responds to telephone calls, email and personnel requests for technical support
  • Documents, tracks, and monitors the problem to ensure a timely resolution
  • Receives and sets up all computer equipment for end users
  • Installs and maintains all workstation software and programs
  • Maintains computer peripheral equipment such as printers, scanners, projectors, etc.
  • Installs and maintains site LAN and wireless networks, including cabling, switch equipment, and rack interconnect infrastructure

Work Environment

This job operates in both office and field settings. Environment will require technician to work in an office directly, remotely on systems, and in the field, sometimes requiring direct onsite support at locations such as port and vessels.

Physical Demands

  • This position requires a successful completion of standard company physical by a physician.
  • Full body movement is required – lifting, bending, crawling, standing, and sitting.
  • Lifting and carrying 50 pounds of equipment is a regular demand.

Travel

  • This position requires frequent travel to both onsite and offsite locations.
  • 75% will be office based.
  • 25% will be remote-site-based travel, with work varying from remote offices, port, and/or vessel support.

Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental (QHSE) Responsibilities

Position requires proper identification of recyclable materials, such as batteries, CRT displays, plastics, and cabling, etc. Technician will follow QHSE guidelines on proper disposal of such materials according to company policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • May require an associate's or bachelor's degree in computer science or related area
  • 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area

Reports To

The IT technician reports to the IT supervisor.
