Tower Operator

Reports to: Operations Superintendent

Work Location: RLWI Vessel


Provides operational expertise in relation to the operations in and around the tower.

Entry Qualifications

  • Minimum G20 accreditation, however G5 accreditation is preferred and will be given preference.
  • 3–5 years relevant industry experience
  • A minimum of 2 years$ direct RLWI experience

Training Qualifications

  • Well control training and certification
  • Regulatory requirements required to travel offshore to the work site
  • Helicopter Landing Officer Basic
  • Mentor Course Offshore crane
  • KRS 1310 NOV Operator Course
  • G5 Refresher Training R003
  • Maintenance and Control of Wire
  • Proficiency VI/6.2 Security Duties

Relationship Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the operations supervisor
  • This position has no direct reports

Scope of Responsibilites/Accountability

  • Lead operations where tower and associated equipment are in use
  • In cooperation with the WIS/LWI-supervisor, actively participate in planning and execution of the day-to-day work onboard
  • Provide operational expertise with regards to the tower and associated equipment limitations
  • Errors will be detected through the proper controls in place through the Permit to Work system, Job Safety Analysis and tool box talks
  • Errors that are missed could have major impacts to safety, environment and costs

Work Environment

This position is primarily based at the work site, and will be exposed to high noise level, varying temperatures, and working in or around large heavy machinery.

Physical Demands

This position will have long periods of sitting with minimum physical exertion, however long periods of mental exertion will be normal. There will also be periods of physical demands including climbing stairs, manual labor, and lifting.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the overall maintenance of the tower and servicing associated equipment, based on the planned maintenance program in accordance with established business standards
  • Liaise with the engine department in technical maintenance issues
  • Plan and participate in all maintenance work around the entire vessel as part of a multipurpose crew if instructed by LWI superintendent or supervisor
  • Organize work permits when required
  • Responsible for training of other marine crew members in operation of tower if qualified for this
  • Overall responsible for daily checks and filling in daily log on equipment brought up/down in the tower
  • Overall responsible for the daily inventory of the tool cabinet dedicated for the tower
  • Overall responsible for safety functions in tower and dedicated areas
  • Overall responsible for daily checks and filling in daily log on equipment brought up/down in the tower
