Accounts Payable Specialist

The purchasing clerk is responsible for assisting the operations department with processing requisitions and follow-up support.

Duties/Responsibilities

The accounts payable specialist will:

• Analyze invoices for accuracy and eligibility for payment.
• Facilitate payment of vendors, which may include verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.
• Ensure outstanding obligations are credited upon payment, identify discount opportunities, and issue purchase-order amendments or stop-payment orders as needed.
• Aid in training of employees involved in billing functions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Code such items as invoices, vouchers, expense reports, check requests, etc. with correct codes conforming to standard procedures to ensure proper entry into the financial system.
• Investigate and resolve problems associated with processing of invoices.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time

Education and Experience

The accounts payable specialist position requires ten or more years of experience in an accounts payable position.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Basic data-entry skills
• Proficient in accounting software
• Advanced to expert-level knowledge of Excel
• Thorough understanding of accounts-payable functions
• Excellent analytical skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years or more of purchasing experience
