Truck Driver (Minimum Class B CDL Required)

The truck driver will safely and efficiently deliver equipment, fluids, and other miscellaneous materials from one point to another as directed. The truck driver will also maintain the company truck in a safe, working order.

Schedule

This is a full-time position that is typically five days a week, Monday through Friday, 12 hours a day (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

Essential Job Functions

The truck driver will

  • Display and encourage teamwork among employees and customers.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with all employees and clients.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, clients, and members of management.
  • Operate company-owned vehicles.
  • Maintain the maintenance of the truck.
  • Deliver, pick up, and pump fuel, oil, and/or supplies to different port companies, as well as affiliated companies.
  • Fill in for the fuel dispatcher or fuel rigger when needed.
  • Perform facility maintenance, such as changing out fuel and water meters.
  • Assist in the cleanup of a spill.
  • Assist in the oil warehouse and receive oil trucks.
  • Follow orders from the fuel coordinator and/or fuel dispatcher.
  • Perform general upkeep and inspection of the vehicle.
  • Be familiar with the use of all types of rigging hardware, slings, and safety issues associated with rigging, lifting loads, and lift planning.
  • Have a knowledge of proper handling and lifting of rigging equipment.
  • Handle lines to moor vessels to wharves and dockside.
  • Assemble rigging to properly lift and move equipment or material on/off vessels and trucks.
  • Select wire rope, synthetic slings, shackles, and other rigging gear according to the weight and size of the load to be moved.
  • Attach and detach lifting equipment from the crane's hoist.
  • Perform any other additional duties that may be required or assigned.

QHSE Responsibilities

The truck driver will

  • Actively participate in the company WISE program.
  • Act as a mentor per the company mentoring and SSE programs.
  • Utilize the Stop Work Authority when necessary.
  • Adhere to and comply with company policies, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Abide by, convey, and enforce all safety rules, including the wear of PPE for oneself and others, including third-party personnel on site at the facility.
  • Operate in the company management system (UniSea).
  • In addition to classroom training, hands-on training is required and shall include proper inspection, use, and maintenance of loose gear such as slings, shackles, and hooks.

Reports To

The truck driver reports to the fuel coordinator and/or the fuel dispatcher.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The truck driver has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

The truck driver

  • Will be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, electrical hazards, vibration, noise, fumes, smoke, dust, gases, chemicals, and a variety of other physical conditions.
  • May be required to work alone and in congested areas.
  • May be required to perform work at an alternate location other than the port facility.
  • Will be subject to adverse weather conditions, including high winds, cold, and heat.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing job duties, the truck driver is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and taste and smell.
  • The truck driver must occasionally lift or move over 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The truck driver must be able to pass a company forklift operator physical annually.

Competencies

The truck driver must

  • Hold a minimum Class B truck driver CDL with HAZMAT endorsement.
  • Hold a valid TWIC card.
  • Have successfully completed PIC training.
  • Be able to read and write in English.
  • Have basic math skills.
  • Have good communication skills.
