Essential Functions

The environmental coordinator will:

  • Eliminate exposures that adversely affect the safety and health of employees and the environment.
  • Conduct evaluations of the workplace to formulate recommendations to eliminate or control any health or industrial hygiene exposures.
  • Perform examinations of trend analyses of environmental incident data to identify recurring causes for implementation of corrective action.
  • Continue professional development by keeping abreast of technological, managerial and regulatory development of the environmental functions through literary review, professional organizations and selected seminars.
  • Represent the company‚Äôs interest in external environmentally related issues by establishing and maintaining a close liaison with appropriate regulatory and customer personnel.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the management system.
  • Establish and recommend changes to environmental manuals, procedures, work instructions, operational control procedures, environmental management programs and forms as needed.
  • Document control of environmental communications.
  • Establish internal environmental audit plan.
  • Participate in management system meetings as needed.
  • Provide assistance to maintain, modify, edit, etc. as necessary the SMPEP/NTVRP/State Response plans for vessel operations and ensure the documents are up-to-date, under applicable approvals, communicated and distributed to all necessary parties in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain, modify, edit, etc., as necessary the VGP for vessel operations, ensuring the documents are up-to-date, under applicable approvals, communicated and distributed to all necessary parties in a timely fashion, as well as ensure timely completions of required reports are communicated to all parties involved.
  • Ensure all environmental releases associated with vessel operations are promptly reported, documented, investigated and, as necessary, followed up on to ensure any open action items are appropriately addressed to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date complete listing of all notice of violations, environmental related warnings, fines, etc.
  • Work with members of the department in originating, maintaining, modifying editing, etc. as necessary environmental aspects, impacts and trending to be consistent with the company's management system.
  • When necessary, assist in the delivery of health, safety and environmental training.
  • Perform analysis and summary reports of environmentally related data to be used in accessing and trending to the success of the management system.
  • Communicate, inform, assist and perform any/all tasks assigned by the QHSE manager that are consistent in providing the company's goal to reduce quality, health, safety and environmental risk.

Travel

Travel is as needed and to include domestic and international trips. Time of travel can range from two (2) to fourteen (14) days.

Supervisory Functions

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

The work environment will be predominantly indoor with occasional outdoor work required. Work can be performed in a variance of temperature and conditions while completing assessments in the field and on board vessels.

Minimum Requirements

  • High-school diploma or equivalent
  • Related degree/certification (preferred)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of QHSE policy and management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate environmental-related risk with task
  • Ability to develop QHSE policies/procedures
  • Proficiency with computer programs utilized to create presentations, policies and reports
  • Ability to coordinate with third parties such as plan writers and regulators
  • Thorough knowledge of EPA, USCG and IMO guidelines related to environmental issues
  • Ability to develop and maintain environmental objectives and targets
  • Ability to present information to auditors as requested
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to create quarterly and year-end reports on environmental statistics
