The purchasing coordinator is responsible for accurately managing the purchasing department.

Position Type

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must work 30 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

Essential Functions

The purchasing coordinator will:

  • Provide supervision and development opportunities for employees in the purchasing department by training, mentoring, assigning duties, evaluating performance, and providing recognition.
  • Model, enforce, and provide direction and guidance to employees on proper supplier/vendor approaches and techniques to ensure ethics and integrity are kept in place while meeting the needs of the company.
  • Work with operation teams and the warehouse team to find the most efficient supply chain to get the vessel their supplies in a timely manner.
  • Promote an open line of communication with all suppliers/vendors to ensure the best items/parts are purchased while maintaining the best value for the vessels to use to get the job done.
  • Ensure purchase orders are created accurately in order to pay suppliers/vendors in a timely manner.
  • Drive process improvement.

Supervisory Functions

The purchasing coordinator will oversee the purchasing department and its activity.

Reports To

The purchasing coordinator reports to the corporate controller.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.

Travel

This position requires up to 5% local travel.

Minimum Requirements

  • High-school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Two or more years of college; or five years of general work experience in purchasing and/or a supervisory role
  • Two or more years of general work experience supervising five or more direct reports to include the responsibility of performance management and mentoring
  • Two or more years of warehouse hand and/or managing experience with the ability to understand supply-chain management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Reader
  • Types 50 words per minute
